LOS ANGELES, August 21, 2026 — Writer-director Julian Kross has wrapped principal photography on Nocturne, his new neo-noir feature developed and co-produced by Molang Studio Productions. The shoot ran for 58 days (company-reported). The film now moves into post-production, with a release window targeted for 2027. A distribution partner will be announced at a later date.

Nocturne follows a night-shift sound engineer in a rain-soaked city who discovers a confession hidden in an old recording.

Built on practical sets

Kross is known for long takes, warm tungsten lighting and physical spaces actors can move through. Nocturne follows that approach. Much of the film was shot on practical sets built for the production, so that rain, reflections and sound could be captured in camera wherever possible.

  • A working recording studio set, built to be fully usable on camera
  • Rain rigs used across exterior night scenes
  • Tungsten-led lighting plans designed around long, unbroken takes
  • Production sound treated as a story element from the first day of shooting
“This is a film about listening, so we had to build places that actually sounded like something. Every room, every street, had its own texture. Now the real work begins in the edit and the mix.” — Julian Kross

Post-production

Post-production is under way, with editing, sound design and the score developed in parallel. Given the story’s focus on a hidden recording, the sound team is playing a central role from the start of the edit rather than joining at the end. Molang Studio Productions is overseeing the post process and will share further updates as the film approaches completion.

Kross has been represented by Molang Showbiz since 2016. His features have earned a combined worldwide gross of about $650 million (company figure). Nocturne is his first feature developed with Molang Studio Productions from the outset.

What comes next

Release details, including distribution and festival plans, will be confirmed once post-production is further along. Between projects, Kross remains available for select commercial and music-video direction through Molang’s Theatrical & Motion division. Inquiries can be sent to [email protected].
